Parking restrictions
Local residents will be aware that earlier this year, parking restrictions were introduced on the Clarion Gate residential estate (where Hamptons is located) by Warwick Estates, the managing agent for the development. Read more on this here.
The long-standing problems of Hamptons using the public open space for parking is now resolved and restrictions are now in force, meaning the previous use of this land by Hamptons as unofficial “overflow parking” is thankfully now a thing of the past.
ON STREET PARKING
This does however mean that parking capacity for events at Hamptons is now limited only to the 98 car park spaces available, risking an increase in street parking for larger events, unless capacity restrictions are put in place and the parking is better managed by Hamptons.
Whilst this hasn’t been too much of a problem since CMS purchased Hamptons in Feb 2020, the building was closed or restricted for large parts of this due to the lockdown, and it is now only recently where events have started to return, along with the parking problems.
A recent event at Hamptons in September saw a return of the parking chaos and gridlock of the estate roads, caused by on street parking once the car park had reached capacity. In addition to causing a nuisance to residents, emergency vehicles would not have been able to access the residential estate. Read more on this here
A subsequent event saw a genuine effort to reduce these problems by limiting the capacity of the event, but it remains to be seen whether this will continue - or be financially viable to the business to do so.
UPDATE ON APPLICATION TO SOUTH ESSEX PARKING PARTNERSHIP (SEPP)
The parking restrictions introduced to the estate only cover the public open spaces and residents private parking bays. The estate roads are council adopted roads, and parking restrictions can only be put in place and managed by the local authority.
SEPP is a Council-run organisation who are responsible for the administration and enforcement of parking rules covering local councils within South Essex.
An application was submitted to SEPP in June 2020 for Controlled Parking Zones (CPZ) with residents permits, and double yellow lines on Tydemans. The application was supported by local Parish and City Councillors Sue Young and Janetta Sosin.
However, due to the Covid pandemic, all SEPP applications and site visits were placed on hold.
Now that restrictions have eased, SEPP are being asked to bring forward consideration of the original application.
